$100 Wiper Blades

Here is the short story of $100 wipers.

wiper.jpeg
I tell a male friend today, that I need new wipers. I also jokingly mention that these types of moments are the ONLY times lately that I don’t like being single. (As a side note the other times on the list are when my back itches or when I have already taken my bra off and need something from the store.)

wiper meme 2.jpg
Said friend makes fun of me and says “wow as strong, independent and feisty as you are, I would think wipers couldn’t defeat you”  Well….when you put it that way…..

I buy wipers, $54 wipers (not sure when I even bought wipers last, but that would’ve bought a great pair of shoes!!). I refuse assistance in installing them. Because, have you met me? I’m tough. And resourceful. And S T U B B O R N. Soooo the quickest way to get me to do something is to tell me that I can’t.

I kill it on installing them myself. Psh, that wasn’t hard at all…..or so I thought
Since I’m in such a car care mood, I go to the fancy new automated car wash (and believe me, it is FANCY). I am making a lot of trips to Little Rock with this brain tumor fight and want to be sure my car is going to take care of me.

wiper meme.jpg

Turns out, the only thing I killed in wiper installation, was the wipers themselves. Didn’t lock them apparently. They flew off in the car wash. 🤦🏼‍♀️

wiper meme 3.jpeg

Back to the store I go. I buy new wipers….another $54……..because I know if I wait til tomorrow, Mother Nature will send a monsoon my way (because her and I are not the best of friends). I did not, however, go back to the same parts store. I went to the one down the road. I’m way too proud to admit defeat. They don’t have my size in stock (sounds like m trips toVictoria’s Secret). I end up back where I started. Where the sweet guy who originally helped me simply says “I knew a girl like you once. She sure was a firecracker. But she sure took the long way around more often than she should have”

When did auto parts guys also become psychologists?

I happily let the gentleman install the new wipers for me.

Moral of the story: Don’t be stubborn and always trying to prove a point. Sometimes there isn’t even a point to prove. All that would’ve come out of me actually doing the wipers correctly, would’ve been a post on Facebook. I think any of my Facebook friends will tell you that’s the last thing anyone needs…another random post from Alicia.
Ask for help. Don’t always feed your weaknesses. There are people to fill in the gaps. Be resourceful enough to use them, so you have more time to be good at what you’re good at.

Tell your friends to suck it, if you need to. And take your extra $50 and treat yourself 😝

P.S. I now also know that wipers are much cheaper at Walmart 🙄

Fanfare Wear

How do you wear your fanfare?  I don’t have too much of a life lesson or wisdom spin on this post, it will be filed in the Fancy Fashion bucket.  But, I couldn’t resist seeing a little bit of a lesson while I was gathering the outfits to show you.  We always see a variety of levels of fanship (yes, it’s a word, even if I just made it up) at games.  My personal faves are the ones that go so out loud that it cannot be denied their passion for the team.  You know, the shirtless dudes with paint. The ladies who scream their team from head to toe.  They put their whole self into showing up and playing the part that their team needs them to play.  The fan.  The supporter.  The people that show up and say, today, I believe in this team.
 IMG_1803
See where I’m going with this?  How do you show up when your team needs you?  How much of yourself do you put out there, to show a friend “I believe in you and will shout for you, at the top of my lungs, from any bleacher”…….just something to think about. I can definitely say I have had to think about it more than ever.  Since I drafted this post (and planned to post it a month ago), my nephew has been diagnosed with brain cancer and had two brain surgeries!  To say he has needed his team, would be the understatement of the century!  And of course, as my actual post below was pointed against, we decked out in game attire (and have worn these shirts out already)!  More to come on that journey later!
 img_1700-1
ANYWAY….on to the clothes!
I’ll be honest, this area of life is a struggle for me!  I’m not sure when it happened, but football game attire got taken up about 437 notches.  I see girls in high heels and dresses and wonder how in the world they do it.  Even at my “spryest” age, I don’t think I could’ve done it.  To each, their own.  I’m not judging. I just prefer to be more functional and comfortable if I’m going to be out on uneven tailgating ground and climbing hills all day (and indulging in things that may alter my depth perception).
Football season in Arkansas is deceiving (and I’m not just talking about how our team lures you in, then breaks your heart with losses).  Football as a whole symbolizes fall, cooler weather, etc.  Nope, not in Arkansas.  The first few games are set in temperatures that rival Satan’s playground.  I will never forget the 2014 season when I passed out from heat.  Hard to watch men throw around footballs and chase each other when every crevice of your body could double as an irrigation pipeline for rice fields. Just hook me up to a spicket and watch your plants grow. SO. MUCH. SWEAT.
So, began the hunt for clothes that accomplished all my football fan needs.  I needed to find stuff that says “I’m here for the team but I’m gonna need some pizazz and not to die while wearing it.”
We’ll start with a piece that could not be passed up.  I love humor.  I love old school rap.  I love red.  So, when A Little Southern Charm sent me these shirts, I couldn’t wait to start matchmaking them with my closet!  The front is plain and simple (which I like).  The back……it takes it up a notch and will have the beat of No Diggity in your head for the whole season!

I had been wanting to try the DIY trick of making your own v-neck t-shirt that I have seen these days.  I usually have a knack for screwing up anything DIY, but this could not have been more easy.  All you do is cut a V (I drew mine with chalk first) and cut around the collar. voila! You just took your tshirts up a notch.  I’m hot on your tails, sorority girls with dresses and heels!
It works perfectly with jeans and my fun MK loafers……

Life hack:  cut the seam off the bottom of the shirt first
AND, remember to actually pack the “non altered” t-shirt so that you can photograph it for it’s place in your blog 😛 and people can see exactly what the “real shirt” looks like, before you try to be a Pinterest queen!
Check out A Little Southern Charm Boutique to grab your shirt!
Next up – The basics
This shirt definitely achieves the comfort.  I don’t know what it is about adding a little criss cross up top, but I always feel like it is a huge help in making it look like I tried harder than I did.  If you’re looking for a quick look for an “after gameday” brunch, and let’s say you may be too tired to do anything with your hair…….this shirt is perfect with a hat.
I found this at Game Day Couture and was pleasantly surprised by how fast it shipped and arrived!  I do wish it was a weeeee bit longer 😃
P.S. they have an off the shoulder top that is to die for.  It took all I had not to order it (but I am trying to dial back that obsession)
The Vest
Also from Gameday Couture, this soft vest is too comfy for words.  I love it with jeans, but I couldn’t resist trying it with boots and leggings.  I love that too and will spend the weeks leading up to season, convincing myself that it’s not too short to wear with said leggings and that I will rock it.  I will not let worry of others judgement stop me!
Get it here

Ribbons and Bows
I. LOVE. THIS. SHIRT.  There really isn’t much to say past that.  It sparkles.  It has ribbon to fancy up the sleeves.  It was made for me.  That’s all.

It lives here if you want to grab your own.

Accessories
You cannot deny these are perfect for any Razorback game!
Found these gems at Logo-N-Stitch
There ya have it!  All set for the first few football games!  The anticipation of hanging out with our newly established tailgate group (and to reconnect with all my regular faves) is almost ore than I can stand!  WPS!!!!
Winter looks to come……they just couldn’t be done right now because it’s hotter than the pits of hell here.  😛

The Adele Hangover Explained

I cannot remember a time when I anticipated a human’s existence as much as I have the return of Adele.  I tried to prepare myself as much as possible.  I even entertained the thought of waiting til Saturday to download the album (psssh – puh-lease) just so that I could be completely and emotionally available to soak it up.  Instead, I downloaded at 12:34 in the morning, listened to it as many times as I could before I crashed at 2:30 a.m., wrote about it and now the only thing I am preparing for is the crash of the internet she is surely bringing with her today.

I am legitimately suffering from an Adele hangover.  And in an effort to help you navigate the emotional roller coaster you are about to go on when you hit play, I have given you a brief recap of each song.  It would be silly of you to think you were going to download and listen to only a couple of songs.  So you’ll need to be sure you read this going in.
anigif_enhanced-23843-1427311479-39.gif
Overall, I expected another sad album that would leave me in the deep pit of despair while drowning my candy cane flannel pajamas in my wine induced tears.  Instead, there were moments of “yeah, you can shove it mr ex…..” and hope, and acceptance of the life that was….and that I’m gonna be ok.
GLORY GLORY Adele.  You could not have done a better job.  I’m actually concerned about you as a person.  The attention you are about to get is going to be overwhelming.  I hope you don’t wear yourself out.

Without further delay, let’s get started.
By Track:
1.  Hello – there isn’t much left to say about this one.  Unless you have been living under a rock, you have already heard this one and are clear on her message.  At this point, we should all have this one on our list of songs to belt out in the car.  I am hoping, if you are a seasoned Adele fan, that you have already worked through the emotion of this one.

2.  Send My Love (To Your New Lover) – IF I have to pick a favorite right this second, it’s this one. It’s just where I am at.  I’m hurt and a little angry at my ex.  He promised things and dragged me through empty promises and a few years of making me think I was asking too much or crazy for expecting to be treated like a decent human being worth someone’s effort (he didn’t even put effort into replying to the break up text).  He has already moved on with his new love who I’m sure is wonderful and making him the happiest person on the planet (so you can see where her line of “You set me free.  Send my love to your new lover.” has a ring to it for me).  I have dwelled on hearing about him do all the nice things he does to win someone over up front and how I wasn’t enough to make him keep loving me past that.  This song single handedly, in a matter of 3:43, got me over that.  I’m proud to say I’m now in the phase of, “have fun with that mess.  It will wear off and you’ll see the real him. And I’ll just be over here remembering that I am enough and I have great things ahead.”  Thank you Adele.  I will send you a check for the therapy and I’ll be singing the lines of “I’m giving you up. I’m forgiving it all.  You set me free.” allllllll day.

3.  I Miss You – I didn’t know I could miss someone right next to me.  But the next time I am actually with someone, this song will probably be all in my head and I will secretly be doing a video montage that has a “seize the moment” theme.  It will be a mix of the passion from the early days of Fitz and Olivia from Scandal, a flash image of that one time a guy and I made eyes at the airport that clearly said “we would be explosive together”, and the short imagination that I have the body of a Victoria Secret model walking across a semi-dark room in slow motion.
4.  When We Were Young – This song says “We had some good moments.  It was kinda like a storybook.  I wasn’t expecting to run into you.  I didn’t know I would feel this way when I saw you again.  So I need to tell you about it, if you have a sec.  But please don’t try to win me back. Let’s just have a quick moment and move along.”  This has the potential to make me really miss someone from way back when who, at the time, seemed like the greatest thing ever.  I could easily have a few drinks and be swayed into thinking they still might be that great………until his wife and 4 kids walk up and he says “get er done”………gotta be careful with this song! 🙂
Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 10.27.38 AM.png
5.  Remedy – I needed a break from my own love life. The songs were making me too raw.  So I chose to look at this as an ode to all my kick butt friends.  Maybe a little out there.  But I couldn’t take myself to imagining this song being played as a message to my groom standing at the end of the aisle waiting on me to walk down (side note – you can bet this will play at 9/10 weddings you attend in 2016).  But I could let myself think of all my “core people”.  Especially the ones in rough times right now.  I want to be the Remedy for them.  Cheesy? Maybe so.  But I love my tribe.  This song makes me happy to have them.
6.  Water Under the Bridge – Second favorite.  Sadly, also applicable to at least 5 of the past guys I’ve dated.  Instead of talking to my friend about how “they always drag me along, drop me, but then realize I wasn’t that bad after all, and come back around.” or “they just keep me hanging cause they can’t decide.”, I’m just gonna put this song on and wait.  This song will also be applied to my shower dance routine.  It just has a good beat and I have killer hip moves in my shower concerts. It just seems natural to incorporate.
Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 10.39.06 AM.png
7.  River Lea – For every person who tries to tell me how to live my love life, this song is for you…..well, the first couple of lines are anyway.  The rest of them are for every dating situation that I sabotage before they even have a chance to turn into something good.  It’s an apology before we even get started.  Because of who I am, I will probably leave.  But it’s ok.  I’m ok.  And you will be too.
giphy.gif
8. Love in the Dark – At first, I thought Adele was relating to every girl who has despised being naked in front of a man in the light.  But then, I realized, that once again, she must have followed my most recent ex and I around.  She puts a simple “We have to be done here.” to beautiful music.  At least in the song, when she is being brave and trying to leave on the best note as possible, she gives the hint that the guy doesn’t want her to and tries to make her stay for 5 seconds.  I can’t say the same for my situation.  But thanks to her, it’s makes me think it’s ok.  We’ll move on.  We’ll live our different adventures and be better for it.  But, for the record, I still don’t want to be naked in the light in front of anyone.  Ever.
Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 10.32.58 AM
9.  Million Years Ago – Regret.  Loneliness.  Longing.  Only listen to this one if you can sit in front of a window, looking into a field, reminisce on your past journey and then shake it off.  It will be too easy to listen to this one and get stuck.  Don’t do it.  Fight it.  This song is the only permission you have to do something crazy immediately following. Book a skydiving adventure.  Write a book real quick……do something.  Anything.  Hurry before you dwell so hard on what you never did that you never come out of it!
tumblr_inline_mfwzl6X1v31raqsyv.gif
10.  All I Ask – You all just thought she was going to address exes in this new album. Nope. She throat punches you with taking friends to the next level too. Get out of my head, lady. I will not conspire with you! This song will tempt you to confront someone you “think” you might have more feelings for.  Don’t do it.  Don’t leave your heart at their door and ask them to hold you like they are more than friends.  This can’t work out well for anyone.  We’re all scared that we might not love again, Adele.
(I believe she meant something totally different than I interpreted – maybe like a “If this has to end, let’s not make it a mess.  Let’s just soak it up in case we don’t ever find another love.”  But in Alicialand – you get a different spin.)
11.  Sweetest Devotion – I let you in.  I wasn’t expecting to like you.  You came in with a hammer apparently and tore down some walls when I wasn’t looking.  And that turned out pretty cool.  You make me want to be a better person.  I value your opinion.  Let’s do this. I’m all in.
See, she gives us a happy ending.
giphy.gif
And this is why it should’ve been perfectly acceptable to call in to work with an Adele hangover today.  We should also just cancel all awards shows next year and throw one big Adele award party.
The End.

Know Your Shopper….Shopping at Ulta

Recently I had quite the experience on a shopping trip to Ulta….followed by a not so pleasant customer service call.  I decided to “tell” you the story versus typing it all out (I know I get wordy and thought if you heard me actually tell a story then reading some of them would be a different experience in the future too)!!

The Chemical Life

Well.  It has happened.  I have entered the world of chemicals.  I always thought I would not ever need them or that I would just embrace aging and accept that things change as you get older.  That’s what I thought until I met gravity.  And age.  Now, all bets are off.  The only thing standing in my way of tummy tucks, botox, and a boob lift is the fact that I am poor and that as far as I know there are no single plastic surgeons around here for me to date.
I am “that girl” that is willing to try anything that promises even remotely improving or stopping the aging process.  I spend a silly amount of time researching home remedies.  Time, that I realize could be spent in the gym which might help more than anything.  In my quest to hang on to what little young and feisty cells I have left, I thought I would share some of my fails and prize finds with you.  I assume you could use the entertainment and I could use the confession.  So, until someone comes along to make me their project in the makeover process, I will continue on my less wrinkle journey.  Wanna come with me?
  1.  Prize find:  Nerium AD cream.  A friend introduced me to this when she became an independent consultant.  I LOVE this product.  I could tell the most change (Or more immediate change) was actually in my cleavage area.  Although the boobs are headed south for more than the winter, this product has done a great job of making that area look younger.  You know those old ladies that have that one wrinkle in the cleavage area?  Not me!  What’s even more awesome is that my friend is no pushy about trying to shove a million dollars worth of product down my throat.  She simply offered the product for me to try.
  2. Prize find – Alicia fail:  Sally Hansen facial hair remover.  This product is great…….when used correctly.  Starting the hair removal process is more of a commitment than I was prepared for.  Ok, it was more of a commitment than I have probably had to anything in the last 12 years.  Once you start, you have to keep it up.  Be careful that you don’t leave it on too long.  There is definitely a magic number of time for each person.  I have yet to perfect that part of the routine so think nothing of it when you see splotches of burned skin or patches of peach fuzz on my face.
  3. FAIL: Honey and lemon remedies.  I have read many uses for this such as blackhead help (much needed for me), hair masks, etc.  Thus far, every recipe I have tried has failed miserably.  For example, the face remedy it offered ended up with a slime like mess running down my neck and even got in my nose somehow.  Then I fell asleep waiting on it to dry and panicked when I woke up and had forgotten what I had done.
  4. FAIL: making your own pore strips.  I can’t even remember the recipe but I do remember how horrid it smelled and how hard it was to get off.  Those pretty pictures the blogger posted made it look like I would never be buying pore strips again.
  5. SUPER PRIZE:  Cocunut oil.  I could write a blog on it and all the wonderful things it has done for me that would be a small book.  But just go with me on this one and read up on it from people who have way better writing skills than me.  It is like a miracle treatment for everything.  I use it for my dry skin as a lotion.  I use it as a hair mask.  I take pill forms of it and haven’t had my blood pressure prescription filled since.  I had a gimp toenail issue solved.  The list goes on.  It is a staple in my house.
  6. Prize:  Water.  As much as I hate to admit this one because for one it’s just boring and for two I hate admitting that “they” are right…..they are.  I drank over 100oz a day for 21 days and got more compliments on my skin.  I didn’t look bloated.  My skin was smoother and fuller.  And then I fell off the wagon (because that is what I do).  But!!!  I am hoping back on and have a new hot pink water jug to prove it.  This jug is sold at Family Dollar and is 100oz.  I fill it up in the morning and don’t have to keep tabs on how much I have drank.  I just know I have to make it through the jug.
So, what are your secrets?

Sinful Little Things

Its the little things….
No, really, it is!! I recently got a complementary box of goodies to try. I had just finished a long day (that is turning into an even longer week) so to come home to a box of “stuff” was definitely a bright spot!
I can’t wait to share about all the products as i try them…but first up was SinfulShine nail polish.

I have just recently gotten nails of my own (after years of biting and acrylics). I must say that I have quickly become addicted to nail polish. HOWEVER, i have possibly the smallest nail beds on the planet along with brittle nails. Not to mention I am horrible in general at the painting process. So, for me it is imperative to find easy application, fast drying products to use.

Imagine my excitement when i was sent a complimentary bottle of quite possibly the best polish I have come across. SINFULSHINE is everything I need to do a great manicure myself AND it has Gel Tech to give you that touch of a gel manicure that can be costly at a salon! I have never tried a bright blue color on my nails before but this “Most Sinful” shade of blue I was given to try definitely has me feeling sassy. And it’s only $2.99 at Walgreens right now!

ANYWAY…I rave about all that to say this…..
Ladies, in a world where we are way too busy, way too stressed, and do not do a great job of treating ourselves….it really is truth that the littlest things can turn your attitude around. Stop by Walgreens on your way home, spot yourself a few bucks and treat yourself to an attitude adjustment in the form of some great polish!!!

Check them out! Find them here My mouth is watering at their other great colors

p.s. photos of my short fingers painted do not do this justice 🙂
